Page Titles The title of the page should be descriptive enough to explain what that particular page is all about. When someone bookmarks the page or adds it to the favorites, the title will be what shows. Also the title is displayed at the top of each page and this will what any visitor will notice first. Content People visit websites in search of information. So it’s but natural that the content of the website should be compelling enough to make them stay. Also, in comparison to other websites of the same fray, your content should be more appealing so as to earn visitor preference. The content should appeal to people from all walks of life and not just to your circle of friends. Page Length The page length should be compatible with all the browsers. It should neither be too long to scroll down so as to bore the reader, nor too short that if fails to include all the requisite information. IMAGES Image Size The image size on the web page should be limited to 12 kb any image larger that this said configuration should be accompanied by a thumbnail version, resized by a paint program, that enables viewers to preview the image before deciding to download it. Image Links All the image links should be clearly viewed as links. It is also advisable to have image maps with text links elsewhere on the web page, so that the links become more accessible. Image Quality One should refrain from adding images on the webpage that serve no purpose. All the images that are featured should render some duty to enhance the information of the site. Image HTML The image tag should have all necessary HTML along with it, including the width and height and the alt text. LINKS Link Text The link text should be descriptive in nature rather than just blinking ‘click here.’ It keeps visitors informed about where they are heading when they click a particular link. Thus, navigation is made easier. Link Annotations All the links should be annotated properly. It should carry with it a descriptive piece of information that explains about the page it leads to. Link Quality The link quality should be maintained. All the links on the website should lead to active pages. They should be regularly checked for their working status GENERAL ISSUES Feedback The site should contain a mailto or feedback form on it. The feedback received from the readers and visitors about the website, helps to identify the weak areas of the site and necessary action can be taken to strengthen it. Hiding the identity, fearing spammers is no good bet as the site looks bogus and questionable without a proper feedback point. Last Updated The website should indicate when it was last updated and inform about any new happenings. Updating the site on regular basis earns credibility and encourages visitors to visit again. Valid HTML The HTML of the website should meet the HTML standards. The website should make use of only HTML standard tags. And in case if any browser specific tag is used, the differences on different platforms need to be adjusted accordingly. Correct Spelling and Grammar There should not be any spelling or grammar mistakes in the content of the website as these errors may hamper the credibility of the website.
